Elective Description: There are three possible purposes for taking this elective. 1)The student is considering ob/gyn as a career but would like additional experience to make this decision 2)The student is considering applying to our ob/gyn residency and would like a more in-depth experience to decide. 3) The student feels a need for further experience in either general ob/gyn, multiple subspecialties of ob/gyn, or in areas of womens' health care which occur in other departments or institutions.(Students wanting an experience in a single subspecialty are referred to the other three type B ob/gyn electives and the one type A elective.)
Each student will design a program with approval of the coordinator that satisfies the requirements of a type B elective. This elective must include at least 50% of the time in the Dept. of Obstetrics and Gynecology. The program could include one or a combination of the following areas: general obstetrics and gynecology, gyn ambulatory care, gynecologic surgery, or reproductive/family planning (this may include clinical and/or observational opportunities at Planned Parenthood). An experience in another department concerning women's health care (eg adolescent clinic, menopausal clinic, breast clinic, etc.) may also be included as long as at least 50% of the time is spent in the Dept of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Students could also choose a program with some of the above plus one or more of the ob/gyn subspecialties (urogynecology, gyn oncology, maternal fetal medicine, or reproductive endocrinology and infertility). |
