Elective Description: This highly sought after elective is designed to deeply immerse students, housestaff, and GI Fellows alike in all aspects of the discipline of Gastroenterology. It features an extraordinarily busy impatient consultation service coupled with and intensive outpatient GI clinic experience. The brand new GI unit is "State of the Art" offering not only ample exposure to the standard procedures of flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy, gastroscopy, ERCP, motility, and liver biopsy, but also to "cutting edge" technology in “enteroscopy”, laser endoscopy, therapeutic endoscopy, capsule endoscopy,papillotomy and endoscopic biliary lithotripsy and stenting, biliary and anorectal motility, esophageal manofluorography, as well as basic and clinical gastroenterology research.
There are regularly scheduled weekly conferences that include GI Pathology review, GI Surgical conference, GI-Xray case presentations including virtual colorography, and Seminars in Gastroenterology; there is also access to monthly Boston Inter-hospital GI Rounds that rotates to each of the major Boston teaching hospitals.
While St. Elizabeth's is the major teaching affiliate of Tufts Medical School, “We have a long and strong historical relationship with the University of Massachusetts Medical School, and we welcome its students and International Students who are approved to rotate in the UMass International Program under Dr. Godkin. |
