|Elective Description: The 4th year medical student will be assigned to General Surgery team at St. Vincent Hospital. He/she will serve in the capacity as a junior intern taking primary responsibility of admission work-ups, pre- and post-operative care, and will assist in the operating room on assigned patients. The student will work under the direct supervision of the surgical resident staff and especially, the Chief Surgical Resident. The training program at St. Vincent Hospital is designed as a sub-internship with emphasis on assuming primary care of surgical patients under the supervision of the attending and resident staff.
The sub-intern will attend the surgical educational conferences, M & M rounds and basic science lectures both at St. Vincent Hospital and the University Campus.
