UMMS is helping distill communication into curricular content with the award of a four-year grant from the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation . Shared with the schools of medicine at New York University (NYU) and Case Western Reserve University (CWR) , the Macy Initiative in Health Communication aims to enhance the communication skills of physicians through systematic training of medical students and house officers. Principal investigator Aaron Lazare, MD, chancellor and dean of UMMS, and investigators from NYU and CWR are working with their schools to create a curriculum and cultivate faculty who will pursue a distinct career path in health communications.
