shRNA Library Core Facility

UMMS has purchased the complete collections of human and mouse retroviral and lentiviral short hairpin RNA (shRNA^mir) libraries from Open Biosystems, and has negotiated with them to distribute individual clones to UMass researchers (Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth, Lowell and Worcester campuses ONLY) at a reduced price. Through Open Biosystems, individual clones can be purchased at a price of $195.00 per clone and control clones for $250.00. Through the UMMS shRNA Library Core Facility, all clones will be available at a permanent base rate of:

The UMMS shRNA Library Core currently has available for distribution: 

1.  The complete collections of human and mouse retroviral (pSM2) shRNA^mir libraries.

• The Core Facility carries releases 1.3-1.20 of the human library and releases 2.3-2.17 of the mouse library.
• Currently, the human and mouse libraries contain an average of 2-3 shRNAs per gene.  New releases will be acquired as they become available.
• Individual clones are available either as plasmid preps or bacterial glycerol stocks.
• In addition, for genome-wide screens the entire human retroviral library has been pooled into 13 shRNA pools, each containing ~5000 clones.  Please inquire for more details.

2.  A portion of the human and mouse lentiviral (pGIPZ) shRNA^mir libraries.

• The Core Facility carries releases 6.1-6.13 of the human library and releases 7.1-7.10 of the mouse library, providing whole genome coverage.
• New releases will continually be acquired; the complete library will contain an average of 3-8 shRNAs per gene.
• Individual clones are available either as plasmid preps, bacterial glycerol stocks or viral supernatants.
• In addition, for genome-wide screens the human lentiviral library has been pooled into 13 shRNA pools and the mouse library has been pooled into 10 pools, each containing ~5000 clones.  Please inquire for more details.
  • The human lentiviral library is available for $250 per pool (plasmid preps) or $350 per pool (viral supernatant).

3.  shRNA^mir control clones (at a price of $50.00 each):

• Non-Silencing (pSM2 and pGIPZ)
• eGFP (pSM2)
• Luciferase (pSM2)
• GAPDH (pGIPZ)

Ordering Information

To place an order, you will need the Gene Symbol, Source ID and Clone Location information for your clone(s). This information is available from the Open Biosystems website. For a detailed set of instructions on how to obtain this information, please see the Step-by-step Instructions .

UMMS (Worcester) campus: 

• Use the online Order Form available through the intranet (accessed via the link on the left).  The data entered onto the order form will be sent to shrnaclone@umassmed.edu for ordering purposes.
• Orders placed by 4:00 p.m. will be delivered the next business day.
• Individual clones will be distributed either as bacterial cultures (stored in 50% glycerol) or as plasmid preps, as requested.

All other campuses (Amherst, Boston, Dartmouth and Lowell): 

• Download the Intercampus Order Form , fill it out and send it via email to shrnaclone@umassmed.edu .
• Orders placed by 4:00 p.m. will be shipped the next business day by FedEx.
• Individual clones will be distributed either as bacterial cultures (stored in 8% glycerol) or as plasmid preps, as requested.
