Scientific Communications
This Core subcomponent encourages the free exchange of scientific information, through (1) coordinating MRDD research and clinical contact; (2) communication of research findings to the community and by public-broadcast seminar series and conferences; and (3) facilitating access of investigators to media services.
-
Media facilities include a large graphics arts drafting/illustration studio suite and a graphics laboratory and darkroom.
-
Computer graphics. Core staff create computer graphics for presentations, construct posters using computer-assisted techniques, and create slide shows employing film-based and PowerPoint slides. The media service has been structured to meet the needs of most laboratories by providing access to a well-equipped facility and a regular staff member who is familiar with the equipment and can either perform the work, or provide training in the use of the necessary software.
Training
-
IT seminars. Regular seminars are scheduled to review IT services, providing an introduction to web-based programming.
-
Statistical seminars. The Statistical Services Seminar Series focuses on topics of general interest to Shriver Center investigators. Email announcements are made center-wide.
-
Reference materials. The Core also maintains an up-to-date collection of software documentation, technical manuals, and tutorials in the Media Lab and Statistical Services Center.
-
Teleconferencing. This facility permits the Center to share this instruction with allied institutions.
