Autism Insurance Resource Center Receives Two New Grants

New England INDEX's Autism Insurance Resource Center obtained two new grants to support its mission to provide a centralized resource to support the autism community in understanding and accessing insurance coverage for treatment. Inspired by the Massachusetts legislature's passage in 2010 of An Act Relative to Insurance Coverage for Autism, known as ARICA, the Autism Insurance Resource Center was established at the University of Massachusetts Medical School Shriver Center in Waltham, MA in March of 2011. The grant awards allow the Center to provide assistance through presentations, webinars, and its information and referral service.

In Oct., 2012 the Nancy Lurie Marks Foundation named the Insurance Resource Center as a recipient of a two-year grant in the area of Advocacy, Education and Social Policy. The Foundation awards grants in a number of other areas including Genetics, Communications, Neuroimaging, Diagnosis, and Treatment to support their mission to help people with autism lead fulfilling and rewarding lives.

The Massachusetts Developmental Disabilities Council, which has supported ARICA and the efforts of Ms. Weinstock and her colleagues from the bill's inception, also awarded a grant to the Insurance Resource Center in October. This is the third grant renewal the DD Council has given to the Center.
