Competencies for Leadership in Clinical Care Trainees
Demonstrate knowledge of the incidence, prevalence, etiology, signs and symptoms in children with
ASD/DD
.
Identify the social determinants of health and health outcomes for populations of children with
ASD/DD
and identify early and sensitive periods where interventions may impact developmental trajectories and long-term outcomes.
Understand the role of genetics in the etiology of
ASD/DD
and the implications for future treatment as well as ethics.
Evaluate children with appropriate screening/diagnostic tools.
Conduct a thorough disciplinary assessment and articulate appropriate interventions.
Demonstrate knowledge of community resources for children with
ASD/DD
and demonstrate skill in making linkages for families with those resources.
Describe the strengths of interdisciplinary care of children with
ASD/DD
and participate as an active member of an interdisciplinary team.
Demonstrate skill and empathy in listening to and responding to concerns of children and families.
Deliver services in a manner consistent with medical home principles.
Describe family systems and processes and integrate this knowledge into clinical work.
Practice the inclusion of persons with disability into mainstream society and work to develop policies, services and supports to realize this goal.
Identify the diversity of perceptions about disability and attitudes toward disability in varied cultural and ethnic groups.
Describe public health systems and agencies that affect children with
ASD/DD
, including federal and state legislation, and the structure and function of agencies.

Describe how the life course perspective and social determinants of health have implications for designing interventions and systems of care so that inequalities and disparities are addressed.

and their families to promote positive systemic change.
Use working knowledge of disability law to promote policy and systemic change.
