Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (LEND) Program
The University of Massachusetts Medical School Eunice Kennedy Shriver Center LEND program is funded by the Federal Maternal and Child Health Bureau (MCHB). The Bureau's concern is to ensure that future leaders and clinicians in the neurodevelopmental disabilities field have the skills and expertise to provide quality services and systems that will enhance the lives of individuals with disabilities and/or special health care needs and their families across the lifespan. The UMMS-Shriver LEND program is one of thirty-eight such national programs whose mission is to accomplish the following:
- Create learning opportunities that enhance leadership potential at the graduate and post-graduate levels.
- Enhance the family-centered, culturally competent, medical home, macro and micro system knowledge and skills of LEND interdisciplinary clinicians, consumers and family advocates.
- Support LEND Fellows and trainees to acquire skills and competencies as future leaders in the field.
- Provide opportunities for Fellows and trainees to engage in scientific investigation.
- Provide opportunities for Fellows and trainees to disseminate information to the field at large.
Graduates of the UMMS-Shriver Center LEND program will:
- Be committed to improving the lives of individuals with neurodevelopmental disabilities and their families by addressing the root causes of disability.
- Inspire and energize those who work with and are concerned about these individuals and their families.
- Demonstrate excellence in clinical, scholarly and professional efforts.
- Be effective change agents at the program, institutional, community, regional and national levels and will define the cutting edge of knowledge in the field.

The LEND program consists of two concurrent training programs:
- Leadership in Clinical Care program designed for pre-service clinical trainees
- Leadership Fellowship program created for advanced leadership trainees.
