Visits to Schoolrooms
Schoolroom teaching efforts have continued to be concentrated in solo science outreach activities by Dr. James Crandallthat have been "hands-on" lessons presented to principally elementary school children (grades 3-6) in the surrounding communities of Waltham, Arlington, and Newton (a dozen classes last year). These minicourses introduce children to the basic anatomy of the brain, present a simplified version of its functional organization and endeavor to relate brain function to daily life. More extended minicourses that cover four weekly presentations cover gross human and animal brain anatomy, microscopic neuroanatomy, reaction time experiments and potpourri (identifying "mystery" animal brains, healthy vs. unhealthy brains, learning and memory, and drugs and the brain).
