April 15, 2010: Reminder: Construction begins April 19First Road closing April 19
The first phase of construction will begin on April 19, when the north end of First Road will be closed and the Basic and West parking lots at the corner of First and North roads will be eliminated. Those who have been using the unreserved West Lot may park in any other unreserved lot on campus–the North Lot, the Pine Tree Lot, the sixth floor of the First Road Garage and the fourth and fifth floors of the Patient/Visitor Garage on South Road. Those who have been assigned to the Basic Lot should begin parking on the fifth floor of the First Road Garage, accessing the garage from the South Road entrance. The fifth floor of the First Road Garage will be designated as reserved parking. Employees on the waiting list for reserved parking will be offered an opportunity to pay for reserved parking on the fifth floor.
Phase II of parking plan begins
Phase II of the shuttle parking plan will begin on April 20 with the opening of a new shuttle lot at Spag’s/Building 19, located at 35 Harrington Ave., Shrewsbury. This lot is for first-year SOM and GSBS students and the additional UMass Memorial employees who will be assigned to the shuttle program based on reverse seniority. All Medical School and UMass Memorial employees currently assigned to the AOG lot on Lincoln Street will continue to park at the AOG lot. After May 1, the Parking Office will evaluate requests to switch to the new Spag’s/Building 19 lot if the location is more convenient for current AOG lot users.
Shuttle stops relocated
After April 20, the on-campus shuttle stop location will change. All three shuttles—AOG, Spag’s/Building 19 and the South Street shuttle—will pick up and drop off passengers on the north side of Third Road, the road that bisects the two grassy areas in the center of campus.
