Central Massachusetts Mathematics Collaborative

Established in 2003, the Central Massachusetts Mathematics Collaborative through support from the Intel Foundation brings together mathematics curriculum leaders from the following communities:  Framingham, Hudson, Leominster, Marlborough, Nashoba Regional, Shrewsbury and Worcester.  The focused goal is to raise student achievement in mathematics through strategic planning, targeted professional development, shared expertise and leveraged resources. The Regional Science Resource Center convenes and administratively supports the Collaborative.

Collaborative-sponsored activities for district-wide administrative teams have included days devoted to learning tools for strategic planning and strategies to improve accessibility to mathematics for special needs students. All districts have been involved with developing trained facilitators in Lenses on Learning (LOL) and Developing Mathematical Ideas (DMI) and then jointly offering training to teachers and administrators in LOL and DMI from all participating districts. Currently, the Collaborative is investigating a Collaborative-based licensure program in secondary mathematics and developing a collegial model for visiting and observing mathematics classrooms in each other's districts.
