Anthony J. Rothschild, M.D. is the Irving S. and Betty Brudnick Endowed Chair, Professor of Psychiatry, and Psychiatry Department Vice Chair for Research at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and its clinical partner, UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester, Massachusetts. Dr. Rothschild has spent more than 40 years in both clinical and research settings diagnosing and treating patients with difficult to treat depressions such as psychotic depression and treatment resistant depression and studying the diagnostic challenges, biology, course, and treatment of these serious disorders. Dr. Rothschild has published his work in numerous scientific journals including the American Journal of Psychiatry, Archives of General Psychiatry, Biological Psychiatry, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology, and others. He is co-editor with Owen Wolkowitz, M.D. of Psychoneuroendocrinology: The Scientific Basis of Clinical Practice, American Psychiatric Press, 2003, as well as the author of the Clinical Manual for Diagnosis and Treatment of Psychotic Depression, American Psychiatric Press, November 2009 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haAwkuSzm7Q) , The Evidenced-Based Guide to Antipsychotic Medications , American Psychiatric Press, 2010, and The Evidenced-Based Guide to Antidepressant Medications, American Psychiatric Press, 2012. A Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, a Fellow of the American Psychopathological Association, an elected Fellow of the  International College of Neuro-Psychopharmacology and the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, and a member of the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology and the International Society of Psychoneuroendocrinology among other professional associations, Dr. Rothschild has received many research grants and has presented at numerous local, national and international meetings. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Clinical Psychopharmacology, on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, Depression and Anxiety, and Current Psychiatry and serves as a journal referee for the American Journal of Psychiatry, Journal of Clinical Psychiatry,  the New England Journal of Medicine, the Harvard Review of Psychiatry, and others. Dr. Rothschild has received many awards and honors including the Massachusetts Psychiatric Society Outstanding Psychiatrist Award for Research, numerous teaching and mentoring awards, and has been consistently named to the Best Doctors of America. Dr. Rothschild received his bachelor s degree from Princeton University, his medical degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and did his psychiatry residency at McLean Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
