Community Outreach & Engagement Initiatives

The UMass Psychotic Disorders Program community outreach & engagement (O & E) initiatives aims to educate the public about schizophrenia, co-occurring substance use and co-morbid medical problems, gather community input, and integrate feedback into the program development plan. The O & E initiatives ensure the participation of consumers, family members, advocates and members of underserved communities in central Massachusetts.

Currently we offer the following community education programs for free to the general public: 1) "Beautiful Mind" education series about schizophrenia, stigma, early recognition and intervention and functional recovery. 2) "With Body in Mind" education series about common co-morbid medical conditions such as weight gain, obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease, healthy lifestyle, and other intervention strategies. For those groups or organizations who are interested in our community education programs, please contact Lauren Bellerose at Lauren.bellerose@umassmed.edu or 508-856-2494.
