A nationally recognized leader in mood disorders treatment and research, Rothschild directs the UMass Depression Specialty Clinic and the UMass Department of Psychiatry’s Center for Psychopharmacologic Research and Treatment.
The UMass Chan Medical School (UMass Chan), the Commonwealth of Massachusetts’s first and only public medical school, has a long history of excellence in psychiatry. The UMass Department of Psychiatry is a center for the advancement of psychiatric practice, research and education; delivery of comprehensive services; development of innovative treatments; and the training of medical students, residents, and psychology interns.
The UMass Memorial Health Care (UMMHC) system encompasses a very large clinical system, which provides a full range of medical and psychiatric services including inpatient care, partial hospital care, day treatment programs, emergency services, pharmacologic services, and an array of individual, family and group therapies.
UMass has specialized clinics to treat and research psychiatric disorders, including the Depression Specialty Clinic; Addictions and Comorbidity Treatment Service; Neuropsychiatry Clinic; and Child and the Adolescent Psychiatry Program. The department has developed major research programs in mood disorders, functional neuroimaging, basic neuroscience and epigenetics, addictions, mental health services research, and psychiatric services for veterans and college students.
The multidisciplinary UMass/NNDC Depression Center of Excellence Steering Committee includes faculty from medicine, family medicine & community health, pediatrics, emergency medicine, and psychiatry.
