Child and Adolescent NeuroDevelopment Initiative (CANDI)

Led by Jean Frazier, MD, Vice Chair for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, the Child and Adolescent Neurodevelopment Initiative (CANDI) is currently undertaking several neuroimaging and treatment studies of youths with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and pervasive developmental disorders.  We are one of few research sites in the country committed to working with some of the most severely mentally ill children, particularly those with psychotic disorders.

Our current research includes studies on:

  • Bipolar disorder
  • Schizophrenia and related illnesses
  • Autism spectrum disorders

Several of these studies are multi-site efforts that involve institutions across the country and around the world.  Together, we hope to help improve the understanding of these mental health conditions and help determine the best types of treatment, ultimately improving the lives of children and their families.
