Regulation of the Growth, Differentiation and Death of Epithelial Cells.

Photo: Julia A. JonassenResearch in our laboratory focuses on regulation of the growth, differentiation and death of epithelial cells. The goal of our current studies is to define mechanisms by which a variety of growth factors, free radicals and hormones mediate signal transduction and gene expression in human and animal renal epithelial cells. Particular emphasis is placed on elucidating the roles played by free radicals in mediating both proliferation and death of renal epithelial cells in kidney disease. I am also actively involved in research in medical education, participating in the development, implementation and assessment of new and innovative medical curricula.
