Calcium signaling in neuronal cells.

More specifically, the study of the regulation of transient localized intracellular calcium signals using high-speed fluorescence imaging techniques.  I examine the physiological function and regulation of these calcium signals. Using electrophysiological techniques such as patch-clamp, membrane capacitance measurement and amperometry, I investigate the mechanisms by which these localized calcium signals activate ion transport and neurotransmitter secretion across cell membranes.  The simultaneous acquisition of fluorescent images and electrophysiological data facilitates our further understanding of the processes involved in calcium control of cell function. That study is associated with molecular biology techniques involving antibodies such as immunocytochemestry and western blot.
