A MESSAGE FROM THE CHIEF RESIDENTS

Hello and Welcome to UMass!

Thank you for taking the time to explore our Pediatric Residency Program. As you tour this site, we hope you get a feel for our program and what makes it special!

Pediatric residents here receive a well-rounded education focusing

on general inpatient pediatrics, pediatric subspecialties and primary care. Our training takes place in a variety of settings including an inpatient pediatric floor, PICU, NICU, pediatric emergency room, as well as outpatient subspecialty and primary care clinic.

One of the unique aspects of our program is that every resident is paired with a community preceptor where they do a continuity primary care clinic throughout residency.  During this experience, residents build their own panel of patients. Graduates of our program have been highly successful in joining strong practices as well as continuing on in fellowship training.

At UMass we work as a team. Residents among all classes are close; many become lifelong friends and colleagues. We work closely with attendings, nurses, social workers, medical students and other care providers. Attendings are always available and supportive, and residents are integrated into the decision making on the patients they are following. Working closely with attendings provides us with the excellent education to provide the best care to our patients.

When looking at residency programs, it’s important to find a place where you feel at home, and find people you will enjoy working with. Being in the hospital and working closely with other residents and faculty is an integral part of the residency experience.  Despite long hours, if you love coming to work, three years go by very fast! The fun here doesn’t end at the end of the workday, on nights off, you’ll often find us hanging out and organizing social events.

We wish you the best of luck with your application and interview process. We’ll meet you when you visit UMass! If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact one of us.
