I am a professor of Pathology in the Division of Anatomic Pathology. My subspecialty interests are gastrointestinal pathology and cytopathology. I work closely with the gastroenterologists in the Division of Digestive Disease and Nutrition on problems related to hepatitis C. The University of Massachusetts Medical Center is a referral center for treatment of hepatitis C on protocols for Interferon therapy. Some of the studies which the Department of Pathology has been involved with have included distribution of iron in liver biopsies before and after Interferon therapy and detailed histologic analysis of liver biopsies from patients with hepatitis C, pre and post Interferon therapy. I am also interested in the immune system of the gut and have been working on projects to study the host-immune response to colon carcinomas and gastric carcinomas.
