Committing to a Value System: an Introduction to Medical Ethics

The goal of this course is to provide students with a basic framework for understanding ethics as a practical endeavor central to the practice of medicine. Upon completion, students should be able to:

  • identify the underlying principles related to medical ethics
  • understand how common philosophical arguments are made to support these principles
  • systematically evaluate the arguments of others

The course will feature guest speakers who can outline common issues in practice and facilitate student discussion.  Guest speakers will be asked to include some discussion of how difficult decisions are made and defended in medicine.
