New Faculty Orientation

The purpose of the new faculty orientation is to provide new faculty at all levels with an overview of the institution, assisting them in beginning a successful career at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

The goals of the New Faculty Orientation are to:

  1. Welcome faculty to the institution;
  2. Introduce new faculty to the institution, its leaders, and programs;
  3. Provide essential information that new faculty need to know for career advancement;
  4. Connect faculty with opportunities to get involved in institutional programs;
  5. Provide a venue for networking among faculty.

Institutional leaders will present topics selected to help faculty advance in their careers at UMMS. The presentations will cover a core set of information that is essential for all faculty, as well as information that is tailored to specific needs for academic advancement and professional satisfaction. The topics will include:

  • the organizational structure of the institution
  • promotion and tenure
  • annual performance review
  • getting started in research
  • how to get involved in teaching
  • clinical practice: RVUs and CQI
  • professional development
