The OFA offers Faculty individual career consultations related to their academic advancement and other career transitions. An OFA Consultant can assist faculty members in identifying appropriate resources from their department, Human Resources, Employee Assistance Program, and other individuals or groups to assist them to reach their goals.
These consultations are intended to augment existing programs and resources offered to Faculty, including:
Note, consultations are confidential unless the faculty member desires it to be shared with their Division Chief or Chair.
- Identify strategy for timing and/or desired outcome
- Clarify succession and transfer of responsibilities plan/training plan
- Identify resource needs and sources (mentee plans, program plans, etc.)
- Identify faculty plans following the desired outcome
- Create targeted goals and objectives

What to expect:
Prior to consultation: Faculty
The faculty member will review a check list related to the specific advancement or transition opportunity and related resources prior to the consultation. The faculty will provide a prioritized list of questions and challenges for discussion and an updated CV in the UMMS format to the consultant a week before the consultation.
Prior to consultation: Consultant
The OFA Consultant will review the updated CV and priorities list of Issues the faculty member would like to address.
Depending on individual circumstances, it may require 1 or 2 consultation sessions to assist the faculty member. Each session will last one (1) hour.
The consultation is a semi-structured interview and reflective feedback discussion using a review worksheet developed by the OFA which utilizes the "6 A’s" algorithm: Ask, Assess, Advise, Assist, Arrange and Agree. Consultation sessions are generally held in the Consultant’s office located on the University Campus.
