Welcome to UMass Medical School and the Office of Educational Affairs (OEA). Founded as the operational core for the School of Medicine’s mission to advance the health and well-being of the people of the commonwealth…through pioneering education, research and health care delivery…, we are guided by two institutional strategic imperatives: build the workforce of the future and design the ideal learning environment. In constant pursuit of excellence, we develop resources, programs and services to give learners across the spectrum of clinical education the tools to overcome the challenges of health care delivery in the twenty first century.

The departments, resources and academic initiatives of Educational Affairs are directed by nationally recognized faculty and staff who are credited with serving as champions for the educational health and wellbeing of our student body. Initiatives include:

  • Expanded the number of regional educational affiliations and continue to strengthen community partnerships to enhance the education mission
  • Implemented the Learner-centered Integrated Curriculum (LInC), a comprehensive curriculum redesign for the school of medicine
  • Adopted a holistic admissions process that places value on applicant experiential learning
  • Invested in several capital improvement projects to further the educational mission including:
    • Redevelopment of our state-of-the-art Anatomical Sciences facility
    • Construction of a technology infused Integrated Teaching and Learning Center (iTLC)Expansion of independent study spaces designed specifically for learners
    • Development of learning communities and a comprehensive mentoring program with professional development opportunities provided to learners across the spectrum of medical education
    • Enhanced team-based and skills development simulation opportunities by creating the interprofessional Center for Experiential Learning and Simulation (iCELS), a multimodal center housing a comprehensive array of simulation programs, services, resources and technologies

I truly believe it is an exciting time to be associated with the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Welcome to Educational Affairs where our faculty and staff are always expanding excellence for our educational mission.
