The School of Medicine - Admissions process is the medical student’s first contact with UMMS, and will prove to be the first step in an ongoing relationship as one travels through the medical school years.
The Office of Student Affairs provides advocacy for and support to medical students in pursuing their major role, which is to learn both the science and the art of medicine. The Office coordinates and supports many student events and programs. We also provide services to respond to the needs of our students including the schools Advising Program and Diversity & Minority Support programs.
The Office of Undergraduate Medical Education (OUME) is a center for academic life where students can meet with faculty or peers, plan activities, discuss courses, receive academic counseling and enrichment or learn about the latest developments in medical education. In essence, the OUME serves as the hub for the numerous spokes that represent UMMS undergraduate medical education, providing educators with the resources needed for curriculum development, implementation and evaluation and ensuring a rich educational experience for students that includes a number of courses and electives throughout the 4 years of medical school.
Graduate Medical Education (GME) at UMMS consists of 45 accredited programs from anesthesiology to vascular surgery, 526 residents and fellows, over 600 full-time and community-based faculty, an academic medical center, affiliated teaching hospitals and community health centers, and a growing number of private office and group practices. As a teaching institution, UMMS has received the highest approval rating from the Accreditation Council on Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
At UMMS, Continuing Medical Education (CME) provides quality, accredited continuing education opportunities to healthcare professionals in order to support and enhance their professional development. In the 2009 academic year, UMMS sponsored over 250 accredited programs for health care professionals. We feature a broad range of programming at the local, regional, national, and international levels, including highly-focused half-day seminars, hands-on workshops, and multi-day symposiums on broader subjects such as primary care.
Our programs feature leading experts, both within the UMMS community and throughout the nation, to address both emerging issues and ongoing topics that healthcare professionals need to remain current in their fields. We are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
