Office of Community Programs (OCP)

The Office of Community Programs (OCP) is part of the Center for Health Policy and Research (CHPR), under the direction of Dr. Ron Steingard. CHPR's mission is to promote and conduct applied research, evaluation, quality improvement, education and training aimed at informing policy decisions and advancing practice to improve the health and well-being of people served by public agencies.

OCP functions as a bridge between the academic community and the near and distant communities served by the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

OCP brings resources and expertise to medically underserved areas — communities that are experiencing health care problems or health care personnel shortages.

OCP supports an educational exchange by developing student placements in community settings and providing community-based continuing education programming.

We believe that collaboration between the community and the university makes for more productive and healthier neighborhoods and communities.

OCP’s work is varied and responsive to the needs and issues identified at the community and University levels. These needs and issues change over time, regularly take on new dimensions, and
make for a dynamic and productive environment.
