Oral Health Initiatives

Purpose

The Oral Health Initiatives program was developed by the Office of Community Programs (OCP) in 1998 to improve access to oral health services for MassHealth members and the uninsured. With creative programming we have developed new points of access and increased the number of oral health providers to serve those most in need of oral health services.

Projects and Services

OCP Oral Health projects have included a wide range of initiatives such as:

  • Funding support to organizations and dentists to increase access to oral health services through grants, scholarships, and loans to public health providers to build oral health service infrastructure and recruit practitioners, funded by the state Medicaid program.
  • Training and educational materials to assist providers in managing their public oral health practices.
  • Collaborator, contributor and grant administrator for the Central Mass Oral Health initiative.
  • Educational programs for MDs and nurses to increase awareness and understanding of the implications of oral health on overall health.
