Community Heroes

Volunteers are community heroes. And it is fair to say that UMass Medical School is an institution that is blessed to be filled with heroes.

Members of the UMMS community – faculty, staff and students – generously share your time and effort in virtually every way imaginable. You mentor young students in local schools; provide hospice care to frail elders; coach and guide young athletes; serve food to the homeless; and provide a helping hand in the face of unimaginable disasters, both across the street and across the globe.

You do all this and much, much more. Your generosity truly makes a difference in our communities. It ought to be recognized and it ought to serve as an example that inspires others to service.

We would like to recognize the unsung heroes among us, share your stories with the wider community, and inspire your colleagues to join you in making a difference. To properly do that, we will be highlighting UMMS volunteers and organizations that are truly making a difference in our community on a quarterly basis. If you would like to nominate a volunteer or an organization please submit a nomination form.

Thank you for your help and, more importantly, thank you for your service.
