Curriculum
The UMass Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery fellowship is a 3-year program which offers an integrated pelvic floor dysfunction experience and curriculum including vaginal, laparoscopic, robotic and abdominal surgical approaches to surgical management of PFD. There are currently three surgeons and one CNM/PhD faculty in the urogynecology division. Fellows will gain experience in non-surgical approaches to pelvic floor dysfunction such as pessary management, behavioral management and pelvic floor PT. There are rotations in urology, colorectal surgery, and plastic surgery with experiences in physical therapy and electrophysiology. The FPMRS fellows interact extensively with the OB/GYN residency program as clinical and classroom educators. Current research focuses on surgical outcomes and predictors, but collaboration with the extensive basic-science and translational research resources of UMass Medical School and Worcester Polytechnic Institute is growing.
The UMass FPMRS Fellowship program was accredited by the American Board of Obstetricians Gynecologists (ABOG) in 2007 and is approved for 2 fellows/3 years. The fellowship curriculum has been designed to follow the General and Special Requirements for Graduate Medical Education in the Subspecialty of Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery as well as the Guide to Learning in Female Pelvic Medicine & Reconstructive Surgery.
Other Degrees or Curricula Offered: There is an opportunity to enroll in a Masters in Clinical Investigation degree program through the medical school which can be completed during the 3 year fellowship.
