King receives Edward J. Hoffman Medical Imaging Scientist Award

Michael King, PhD, vice chair of research and professor of radiology, is the recipient of the 2015 Edward J. Hoffman Medical Imaging Scientist Award from the IEEE Nuclear and Plasma Sciences Society. This award is given annually to an individual in recognition of outstanding contributions to the field of medical imaging science.

Dr. King will be presented with the award at the IEEE Medical Imaging Conference next month in San Diego for his years of “contributions to clinical nuclear medicine imaging, especially compensation for realistic physical effects and motion in image reconstruction, emission and transmission imaging geometries and task-based evaluation methods.”

Edward Hoffman is known for research that led to the development of the first human PET scanner. King is also the 2006 recipient of the Society of Nuclear Medicine Computer and Instrumentation Council’s award given in honor of Dr. Hoffman.
