Committee on Equal Opportunity and Diversity launching anti-bullying initiative

The Committee on Equal Opportunity and Diversity at UMass Medical School held its annual meeting on Thursday, June 18, where attendees learned about a new diversity competence education initiative and heard updates from subcommittee co-chairs (see sidebar/below).

A new program launching this summer, “Bullying: Beyond Finger-Pointing to a Culture of Respect” will comprise a self-assessment and positive and educational campus wide conversations to engage community members in taking an active role in creating a culture of respect at UMMS.

“If we have as an expectation being an employer of choice, then it is imperative that the activities embodied by all of your committees be given more emphasis and be more successful,” said Chancellor Michael F. Collins, who announced that funding will be significantly increased next year to enable the subcommittees to expand their respective and collaborative efforts.
