The African Community Education program, started by UMass medical students in 2006, will hold its fall fundraising event on Thursday, Oct. 24, at 6 p.m. in the Blais Pavilion of the LRB.
ACE is a community-oriented program providing educational assistance to African refugee and immigrant children living in Worcester. Many of the students benefitting from the program come to the United States from nations experiencing war and political and social instability and have been unable to fully participate in educational programs until arriving here. ACE seeks to help students close the gaps in their education and assimilate to life in this country.
The fundraising event on Oct. 24, which is being held on the Worcester campus for the first time, features a dynamic program including a festive African dinner, traditional music and dance performances, live and silent auctions and inspiring testimonials from ACE students.
Tickets for the event are $50 in advance ($60 at the door) for adults; $30 for students and children ($40 at the door); and tables of 8 can be purchased in advance for $350.
