School of Medicine class speaker Michael Epstein, who is the son of two doctors, has been interested in science and medicine for nearly his whole life, so medical school was a natural choice. But it wasn’t until he went on a medical mission to the Dominican Republic in the spring of his first year at UMass Medical School that he felt like his education had begun.
“That trip felt like when medical school really started for me,” said Epstein. “It was great to go down to a beautiful community of people and feel like I was able to help out.”
His biggest passion in medicine is in health disparities and social determinants of health, something that he is excited to pursue as a pediatrics resident next year in Boston.
In this video profile, he talks about what his future holds and what it means to him to be part of the class of 2013.
