NECN talks with Pagoto on cosmetic arm lifts

Sherry Pagoto, PhD, associate professor of medicine, appeared on the New England Cable News Morning Show to comment on a new report by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons showing a surge in women getting cosmetic surgery to improve the appearance of their upper arms.

“On the one hand it means our ideal is shifting from just being skinny to being fit,” Dr. Pagoto said on the April 30 NECN show. “That’s sort of good news, but the bad news is the way we want to get there is not through the traditional means, which would be through exercise.”

Pagoto said she recommends six months to a year of exercise to achieve strong arm muscle tone before even considering such cosmetic surgery.
