New anonymous public safety reporting tool announced

UMass Medical School Campus Police and UMass Memorial Medical Center have created a new public safety reporting tool called Tips Alert that allows employees to submit anonymous public safety tips via text message or online. Tips Alert is for nonemergency, investigative information only and will not generate a radio call or summon the police to the location of the informer.

Campus police welcome all tips relating to public safety concerns, including safety issues that may impact patients, visitors or employees, information about an alleged crime or a potentially illegal incident. Some examples may include reporting icy conditions, potholes and skateboarders in the parking lots and garages; speeding vehicles in the vicinity of our campuses; and employees smoking on UMMS properties.

To submit a tip through a text message, send it to 274637 and type the keyword TIPSALERT.

To submit an anonymous tip online, submit an online form. The tip goes through a secure server where the identity of the sender is masked from the detectives receiving the online anonymous tip.

For a crime in progress or to report an emergency, call 911 immediately.
