New director of student financial aid announced

Shawn Morrissey has been appnted the new director of financial aid, Deborah Harmon Hines, PhD, vice provost of school services, announced.

Morrissey comes from Framingham State University, where he served as associate director of financial aid since 2005. He managed a busy financial aid operation for a campus with an enrollment of 6,000 students and more than $24 million in aid, including federal, state and institutional grant programs.

Morrissey has been an active member of the Eastern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators and the Massachusetts Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators for more than 20 years, serving in leadership roles and receiving numerous awards from both associations. At Framingham State, he served on the Administrative and Student Information Management Council; the University Technology Council; the Information Security Council; and the Committee on Diversity and Inclusion.

A resident of Fitchburg, Morrissey received the bachelor of business administration degree with a concentration in accounting from Anna Maria College in Paxton.

“I would like to thank Tina Sasseville, the assistant director of financial aid, for serving as interim director during this search,” said Dr. Hines. “Financial aid plays a critical role in the life of our student body. We are fortunate to have someone with Shawn’s experience join us to lead this endeavor. Please join me in welcoming Shawn to UMMS.”
