Center for Mindfulness hosts 11th annual international conference

cfm-logoThe UMass Medical School Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society is hosting its 11th annual international scientific conference in April. The conference, Investigating and Integrating Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society, is jointly sponsored by the UMMS Office of Continuing Education. It will be held at the Sheraton Four Points in Norwood from April 17 through 21. The conference attracts participants from around the world.

The four-day event provides an opportunity for clinicians, researchers, educators and students to interact with one another in investigating new approaches and significant findings in the broad integration of mindfulness and medication into medicine, health care and society. Highlights include a research symposium investigating the neural mechanisms of mindfulness; translating the basic science of mindfulness into treatment; mindfulness in medical education; and pioneering initiatives focused on integrating mindfulness into broader sectors of the society including corporations, school systems, teacher education and development.

The conference will feature more than 90 presenters and 75 presentations in support of the growing and diverse interest in mind-body and participatory medicine. Plenary speakers include J. David Creswell, PhD, from Carnegie Mellon University; Ronald M. Epstein, MD, from the University of Rochester Medical Center; Barbara Frederickson, PhD, from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Lynn Rossy, PhD, from the University of Missouri; and Saki Santorelli, EdD, from UMMS Center for Mindfulness. Opening remarks will be offered by Arthur Zajonc, PhD, from the Mind and Life Institute.
