Student charity auction to benefit Worcester free clinics

The UMMS Student Body Committee (SBC) is hosting its annual COMECC Charity Auction on Friday, Jan. 11, with proceeds going to the Worcester Free Clinic Coalition. The event, which is semi-formal, will begin at 7 p.m. with food and drink; the auction itself will begin at 7:30 p.m. James Ledwith, MD, assistant professor of family medicine & community health and medical director of the Epworth Free Clinic in Worcester, will be speaking on behalf of the Worcester Free Clinic Coalition about how the auction proceeds will be used.

“The COMECC auction is a great opportunity for the three schools to come together and raise money for the clinics that serve the Worcester community,” said Malek Mazzawi, who is a first-year medical student and SBC representative. In the past, the annual auction has raised more than $10,000 for the Worcester free clinics.

The auction is open to all members of the UMMS community and takes place in the Faculty Conference Room in the Medical School building. For information about donating items to the auction, contact Shivani Kumar via email at shivani.kumar@umassmed.edu.
