Pink celebrates the lives of those touched by breast cancer

Pink—Lighting the Way is more than a fundraiser to support breast cancer research and patient care at UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial Health Care. Itis an annual celebration of the lives of those touched by the disease. Held in recognition of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, this year’s event will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 10, in the Lazare Research Building.

The program will begin at 6 p.m. with the lighting of pink votive candles, each in honor of a survivor or in memory of someone lost to the disease. The glow of hundreds of pink symbolizes the hope that a cure is on the horizon.

The candle lighting will be followed at 7 p.m. by the forum “Town Meeting: The Way to a Cure,” where breast cancer survivors share their insights about living with the disease and their journey through treatment. The panel will also include physicians who will provide updates on breast cancer research underway at the Medical School and UMass Memorial.
