In an interview with WBUR, Massachusetts Medical Society president and UMMS emeritus professor of emergency medicine Richard Aghababian, MD, talks about the effect of the state's new health cost containment law, noting that patients—not just health care providers—will have to take on new responsibilities. Dr. Aghababian said that patients could help the effort to curb health costs by adhering to the medications and therapies prescribed to them, stressing the need for a "humane" means of dealing with patients who have insurance coverage, yet behave in ways that are detrimental to their health.
