Scientific conference explores mindfulness in medicine, health care and society

The world-renowned UMass Medical School Center for Mindfulness is preparing to hold its 10th annual international scientific conference. Investigating and Integrating Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care and Society will take place March 28 through April 1 at the Four Points Sheraton in Norwood. The conference is co-sponsored by the UMMS Office of Continuing Education.

With presenters and participants from around the world, the conference provides a unique opportunity for clinicians, researchers, educators and students to explore new approaches and significant findings related to the integration of mindfulness and meditation in medicine, health care and society.

The conference will include 90 presenters offering 60-plus presentations representing the growing fields of mind-body and participatory medicine. Opening remarks will be provided by Diana Chapman Walsh, president emeritus of Wellesley College.Plenary speakers include:

  • Linda E. Carlson, PhD, R.Psych, the Enbridge Research Chair in Psychosocial Oncology, University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada
  • Rebecca Crane, MA, MBACP, DIPCOT, Centre for Mindfulness, Bangor University, Wales, UK
  • Richard J. Davidson, PhD, director, Lab for Affective Neuroscience, Waisman Lab for Brain Imaging & Behavior, University of Wisconsin-Madison
  • Saki F. Santorelli, EdD, MA, conference chair and executive director of the Center for Mindfulness, UMass Medical School
  • Zindel Segal, PhD, Cameron Wilson Chair in Depression Studies and head of the Mood and Anxiety Disorders Program, University of Toronto, Ontario, Canada
