The Second-Year Oath of the Class of 2014

As a member of the class of two thousand fourteen, I recognize it is a privilege to be entrusted with the care of another. I resolve to make myself worthy of this honor.

This privilege is not entrusted to me alone; I am a member of an inter-professional team. I will foster an environment of optimism and fortitude. I will listen openly and communicate honestly.

I will approach my patients and community with a spirit of service. I will promote every good of the patient. I will use my knowledge and skills to empower those around me.

I dedicate myself to achieving excellence in knowledge and skill. I will remain curious about the human condition and committed to advancing health care.

I will be reliable and accountable. I will maintain personal integrity, humbly recognize my limitations, and ask for help when I need it. I recognize the importance of seeking balance in my life in order to cultivate joy, creativity, and personal fulfillment.

I will enter the doctor-patient relationship as an equal partner, caring for the whole person unconditionally. I will approach my patients with the empathy that I would show to my own family and recognize in them a fellow creature in pain.

Recognizing the importance of teamwork, professionalism, service, personal well-being, and, above all, care of my patients, I pledge to uphold this oath and to remember this privilege.
