Thousands walk to raise money for cancer research

UMass Medicine Cancer Walk inspires nearly 10,000

The UMass Medicine Cancer Walk drew nearly 10,000 people to the UMMS campus on Sunday, Sept. 25, for this inspiring annual event. Walkers included Chancellor Michael F. Collins; School of Medicine Dean Terence R. Flotte, the Celia and Isaac Haidak Professor of Medicine, executive deputy chancellor and provost; University of Massachusetts President Emeritus Jack Wilson; UMass Memorial Health Care CEO John O’Brien; and teams of fundraisers from across the region, all brought together by the common and fervent desire to support cancer research. The fund-raising goal of the 2011 Cancer Walk is $800,000; since its inception 13 years ago, the walk has raised more than $7 million in support of cancer research and care programs at UMass Medical School and UMass Memorial.
