Help feed hungry families in Worcester

food drive boxThe offices of Community and Government Relations and Diversity and Equal Opportunity are sponsoring a food drive for hungry families in Worcester. The drive began on Tuesday, Sept. 20, and runs until Friday, Oct. 14.

“As part of our community outreach efforts we have been meeting with local community organizations. Many of them talked about the economic challenges many in their community are facing and also cited challenges in distributing food to them,” said Kola A. Akindele, community relations associate. “As a response to that, we decided to hold a food drive for the benefit of this community.”

Donations of non-perishable food items can be placed in bins located in the lobbies of the Medical School building, the LRB and the South Street campus. Recommended food items include: canned fruits and vegetables, soup, tuna, cereal, rice, pasta and beans. Grocery store gift certificates are also acceptable. The food will be distributed through Worcester Interfaith, a local community group.
