Spring kicks off with a weight-loss challenge

Fitness center at the South Street campus holds weight-loss challenge

Spring is almost here, which means birds are starting to sing, flowers are about to bloom and baseball players get back into action with spring training. For employees at the UMMS campus on South Street in Shrewsbury, spring is also an opportunity to do some training of their own.

The South Street Fitness Center is offering a weight-loss challenge—the Spring Training Countdown—to all employees at the South Street campus. The countdown will take place over five weeks and participants are encouraged to lose between 4 and 12 pounds during that time. In keeping with the baseball theme, participants are asked to form teams of three players as well as assign a team captain, who will be contacted with the schedule of weigh-in times and dates. Weigh-ins will occur once weekly and each team will be scored on the amount of weight lost or gained. The cost to participate in $10 per person and guidelines for training and healthy eating will be provided to all participants. The two top-scoring teams will receive prizes, which will be identified at a later date.

Registration will take place from March 17 to March 22. To register, complete this form registration form and submit it to South Street Fitness Manager Karen Neal by e-mail at karen.neal@umassmed.edu.
