Photos show off employees’ artistic side

Employees with a penchant for photography are sharing their talents with their colleagues by participating in an employee photo contest sponsored by Commonwealth Medicine (CWM). Each month, employees of CWM and its affiliates, Public Sector Partners and MedMetrics Health Partners, are invited to submit photos relating to a particular theme. A selection committee reviews the submissions and chooses five or six images that are then presented on the CWM intranet. Employees vote for their favorite photo from this selection. The winning image, announced on the last business day of the month, is printed and framed, and displayed for six months in the executive office suite at the South Street campus in Shrewsbury. At the end of the display period, the winner receives the framed photo to keep.

“I’ve entered the contest before and have been a finalist on three other occasions. I was surprised and excited to have won,” said Terry Huber, case specialist in the Estate Recovery Unit of the Center for Health Care Financing and the contest winner for January. “I love taking pictures and the photo that won is among my favorites.”

“The contest is a great way to highlight people’s creativity and personal interests,” said Rose Tedesco, MBA, marketing communications manager for CWM’s Marketing Analytics department, which has coordinated the contest since its inception in April 2009. “And because we have employees located at many sites across the state, it is also a way to bring everyone together, at least virtually.”

While it is a CWM contest, submissions can be made by any UMMS employee and are kept anonymous until the winner is announced. Participants can send entries up until the 13th of every month for that month’s contest. Voting takes place on the CWM intranet during a one-week period at the end of every month.
