UMMS students elected to Alpha Omega Alpha
October 25, 2011
The medical honor society, which was founded in 1902 at a time when medical education in this country was largely unregulated, serves to promote scholarship and research in medical schools, encourage a high standard of conduct among medical students and graduates and recognize high achievement in medical science, patient care and related fields. There are currently 120 chapters of AOA. The UMass chapter was founded by David Drachman, MD, professor of neurology and physiology, who was himself elected to the society while in medical school.
