Clothing drive to benefit Abby’s House begins Jan. 3

clothing drive

There’s nothing like winter in New England. As the cold weather settles in, woolen sweaters, down-filled coats, and hats and gloves get put on—but, unfortunately, not by everyone.

Beginning on Monday, Jan. 3, the UMass Medical School community will have an opportunity to donate warm clothing to people in need. The Warm Clothing Drive will collect donations to benefit Abby’s House, a nonprofit organization serving homeless and battered women and children in Worcester. The drive, which runs through January, is sponsored by the UMass Medical School’s Three Schools Committee, a student-run charitable service group.

Recommended clothing items, which should be in good condition, include:

  • Shirts
  • Pants
  • Sweaters
  • Mittens/gloves
  • Hats
  • Scarves
  • Coats

Donation bins will be available at all entrances of UMass Medical School building in Worcester, the entrance to the Lazare Research Building Lazare Research Building, at Biotech I, II, IV and V, and at the South Street campus in Shrewsbury.
