Welcome to the Masters of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI) program at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

We are a relatively new program at the Medical School. This 2-3 year training program for M.D. as well as Ph.D. scientists was developed in response to the growing national need for future investigators in clinical and translational research. Training programs such as ours are designed to address contemporary challenges in biomedical research and address gaps in current knowledge at the basic science and population level as well as in the design and delivery of more optimal care to patients with acute and chronic conditions.

The MSCI program is by design interdisciplinary in nature. This training provides students with a solid foundation in clinical epidemiology, biostatistics, study design, and scientific and grant writing. Our formal courses are supplemented by a bi-weekly journal club and a monthly seminar series in which more senior investigators from Departments throughout the Medical School discuss their ongoing research and training opportunities for interested students.

Our program is designed to train the next generation of clinical, public health, and translational scientists who will make important contributions to more fully understanding the causes of disease and promotion of health at both the individual and population level. We encourage you to visit our website and learn more about our course offerings as well as the research activities of participating program faculty.
