Our team

Sherry Pagoto, PhD is a Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and Co-Founder of the UMass Center for mHealth and Social Media. She is a behavioral scientist and licensed clinical psychologist with expertise in health behavior change, stress, and depression. She has several grants focused on digital health solutions to obesity and cancer prevention. She has consulted for major companies including Apple, Weight Watchers, and Sears. She has published 121 papers in scientific journals and her research program has been consistently funded by the NIH and/or CDC for 13 years.  Her work has been featured in Time, CNN, NPR, ABC News, NBC News, and Huffington Post. She is a leading voice on social media for obesity care and cancer prevention with over 9.6K followers on Twitter. She also regularly blogs for US News and World Report and Psychology Today. She was recently listed #5 on Onalytica’s list of top 100 digital health influencers on Twitter.

Christine May, PhD is a PRACCTIS Postdoctoral Research Associate jointly in the Division of Preventive and Behavioral Medicine in the Department of Medicine and the Department of Quantitative Health Sciences. She is working with Dr. Sherry Pagoto and Dr. Molly Waring on various projects related to online interventions for health behavior change. Dr. May’s research in cancer prevention and control focuses on using novel interventions for the treatment of obesity, including mobile health applications and technologies to help individuals achieve permanent healthy lifestyle changes.

 Dr. Danielle Jake-Schoffman

Danielle E. Jake-Schoffman, PhD is a PRACCTIS Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Division of Preventive and Behavioral Medicine in the Department of Medicine. She is working with Dr. Sherry Pagoto on various projects related to technology-enabled interventions for health behavior change. Dr. Jake-Schoffman’s research focuses on the use of mobile technology tools to encourage healthy eating, physical activity, and family communication about health behaviors.
